Singer Castle “Escape” episode will elude viewers

The episode of the reality TV series “The Great Escape” filmed last September at Dark Island’s Singer Castle near Chippewa Bay will elude viewers.

“The Great Escape” on the TNT network dropped people into exotic locations and challenged them to escape.

The episode on Dark Island, when filmed, was publicized as the series’ pilot episode. The nine-episode summer series began June 24 with “Escape From Alcatraz.” and ended Aug. 26 with “Escape From the Tower,” in which contestants had to free themselves from a 50-story-high Los Angeles skyscraper.

Meanwhile, local viewers kept watch for the Singer Castle episode. They saw glimpses of it from “Great Escape” promotional clips, but that’s all they will see.

“It was a pilot episode and will not air,” TNT spokeswoman Samantha Graham said in an email.

Producers selected the castle for its secret passageways, underground tunnels, turret dungeon, boathouses and clock tower. Preparation for shooting the 42-minute episode took two weeks.

ARTIST’S NOTES:  “I took my parents on a tour of Singer Castle for their anniversary and was inspired by the grandeur of it. I loved the contrast of the colorful stone and the red roofing. The day was spectacular, which added wonderful light and shadow to the view. The perspective further enhanced the magnificence. I grew up in the Thousand Islands and want to do more artwork of the area.”
